47 Hour Armed Guard Training Course
The 47 Hour Firearms Training Course is for current security guards who would like to upgrade their license to work as an ARMED SECURITY GUARD. Applicants must have a valid New York State pistol license under Penal Law 400.00 to take the course. The program incorporates both classroom instruction and practical range instruction.
This course covers firearm safety, fundamentals of shooting, cleaning of firearms, storage of firearms, flashlight techniques, use of cover and concealment, reloading techniques, and basic officer survival skills. Part of the course will cover the proper use and justification on the use of physical force, including deadly physical force, as stated under Article 35 of the Penal Law of New York State.
There are two mandatory tests, 1. a written test on the use of force and 2. a shooting qualification. Each participant will have to obtain a minimum of seventy percent (70%) on all shooting exercises and written testing.
Range Qualification: Each student is required to successfully pass two separate examinations in order to receive certification as an armed security guard. Students will be required to qualify twice with scores of 70% (175 out of a possible 250 points) upon completion of the 40-hour range instruction. Qualification score MUST be accomplished using the DUTY WEAPON and SERVICE DUTY AMMUNTION. The standard accepted target is a B-27 silhouette with a course of fire up to 25 yards. Students will also be tested on Article 35 Defense of Justification (Penal Law).
Price does not include Range Time and Ammunition. It is the student’s responsibility to come prepared with ammunition and make the payment to the gun range at the end of each training day.
REQUIRED TO QUALIFY:
- Valid Unarmed Security card
- Valid New York State pistol permit
- Safe and Functional Firearm
- Any semi-auto handgun
- Safe and Functional kydex holster
- AIWB, IWB, or OWB holsters are permitted
- No Blackhawk SERPA, crossdraw, shoulder or ankle holsters are allowed
- Magazines required
- Minimum of 2 magazines required (three preferred)
- Belt-mounted magazine pouch may be used
- 1000 rounds of factory ammunition (No reloads)
- Eye protection required. Prescription eyewear is acceptable.
- Ear hearing protection required
- Electronic devices recommended
- Baseball style cap with brim recommended
- Range pants or comparable with belt loops sturdy enough to hold a hard holster
- Shirts and/or outerwear that can be tucked into pants
- Range appropriate closed-toed footwear (Boots preferred)
*Per NYS Ammunition Records Requirement, please have ammuntion prior to attending the training. It can take a few days to pass the background check for ammuntion.
